Jesus is the image of God (Colossians 1:15)
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css="" css_animation="none"]
A @Christadelphians Video: This passage tells us that Jesus is the image of God. This idea is often ignored by those who are thinking about the nature of Jesus. The important point is that an image is different from the original. An image does not have the same substance as the original.
You can see my image on the screen, but the image is not me, although it shows what I am like. Similarly, Jesus is the image of God, which means that he is not God, but that he shows what God is like. Colossians 1:15 tells us that Jesus is the firstborn of creation. This must mean that Jesus is part of creation. God, of course, is not part of creation; God existed before creation. The firstborn was a term which meant "Most important" than first in chronological time. The passage goes on to describe Jesus as the firstborn from the dead, and seems to refer to the new creation.
# Summary This presentation discusses the biblical passage from Colossians 1:15, which states that Jesus is the image of the invisible God.
It explores the meaning of this concept, highlighting that Jesus perfectly reflects the character and qualities of God, even though God is invisible. The presentation also draws connections between this idea and the biblical account of creation in Genesis, where humans were created in the image of God. However, due to sin, this image became distorted. The presentation then introduces the concept of a "new creation" in which Jesus is the first-born, and believers can become part of this renewed community that reflects God's glory. ### Highlights
🔍 Jesus is described as the "image of the invisible God", meaning he perfectly reflects the character and qualities of God, even though God is invisible.
🔍 The presentation connects this idea to the biblical account of creation in Genesis, where humans were created in the image of God, but this image became distorted due to sin.
🔍 Jesus is the "first-born of every creature" and the "creator of all things", suggesting his pre-existence and role in the original creation, as well as his position as the first of a "new creation" that believers can become part of.
🔍 The presentation emphasizes the opportunity for believers to be part of this renewed community that reflects God's glory, in contrast to the "old creation" that was corrupted by sin. # Keywords - Christology - Creation
