Jesus in the Judges (6 Studies 2025 updated) - Luke Whitehouse

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=""]This six-part series explores how key figures in the book of Judges foreshadow the life and mission of Jesus Christ, revealing the gospel message through their victories, sacrifices, and struggles. Othniel – The Redeeming Husband Othniel wins a bride, Acsah, portraying Christ who lovingly takes His ecclesia—the faithful—as His own bride. Ehud – The Slayer of King Sin Ehud defeats Eglon with a hidden sword, pointing to Jesus who crucified sin in the flesh, striking at evil’s heart through the cross. Jael – The Crusher of Carnality Jael drives a tent peg through Sisera’s head, anticipating Jesus in Gethsemane, where He crushed the carnal mind and submitted fully to the Father’s will. Gideon – The Victor of Israel Gideon’s story spans the whole redemptive arc, from God’s call to the final victory. He prefigures Christ, who will return with a glorified multitude of saints, glorifying the Father’s name and overthrowing the enemies of Israel. Jephthah – The Vower Keeper for His Only One Jephthah offers his only child in fulfilment of a vow, reflecting the Father’s commitment in giving His only begotten Son to the sacrificial work of salvation. Samson – Betrayed and Victorious through Death Betrayed for pieces of silver, Samson ultimately defeats Israel’s enemies through his own death, a clear picture of Jesus who gave Himself as the ultimate sacrifice, conquering sin and death. Together, these messages show that the Judges were more than ancient heroes: each one provides a vivid portrait of Christ, preparing us to recognise His saving work and His coming kingdom.
