You Are Here in Bible Prophecy...
Hi and welcome to the Watchman Report Extended. This new series aims to bring clarity to Bible verses in relation to the ongoing situation in the Middle East. We’ll explore single verses that carry deep prophetic weight. Verses that may seem small but are bursting with divine insight, future promise, and spiritual revelation.
Zeroing In: Ezekiel 37:21-22
In this episode, we deep dive into Ezekiel 37:21 and 22. This is our first in a series of presentations, and it comes from Ezekiel chapter 37. I’ve entitled it, you are here in Bible prophecy. Now, Ezekiel 37 is the well-known passage about the ‘valley of dry bones’ that speaks about many, many things concerning the nation of Israel, but we’re going to focus in on just two verses, verses 21 and 22.
This is what the sovereign Lord says. I will take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone and I will gather them from all around and bring them back into their own land.
The Scattering and the Promise
Now, if you know your history, Israel was scattered first by the Babylonians in about 500 BC and then again in a more complete way in AD.70 after the time of the Lord Jesus Christ. They were scattered into all nations and Israel ceased to exist as a nation from AD.70 on. And this prophecy here in Ezekiel 37 speaks to that. It says that God will bring the Israelites out of all the nations where they’ve gone and will gather them from all around and bring them into their own land.
Now, this occurred in the late 1800s and the early 1900s, up until about the mid-1900s. The Jews started to return to the land and establish kabutsum and build towns and cities. The events of World War I and World War II precipitated many of these events as the Jews were chased out of their homes in Europe and other parts of the world and began to establish themselves as a people in their ancient homeland that they’d inhabited in the years prior to the Lord Jesus Christ.
A Nation Reborn
But from AD70 on, there’d been no nation of Israel, they still didn’t have a nation here at this time in 1947. But the passage in Ezekiel goes on to say,
“I will make them one nation in the land.”
This is a remarkable prophecy. And in the time of Ezekiel, when the Jews had been scattered and taken to Babylon, they did return 70 years later as Jeremiah had predicted. But then they were scattered again by the Romans. And they have not been a nation ever since that time.
But in 1948, in a remarkable way, the nation of Israel was established. It was proclaimed on May 14th, 1948. And they have maintained their nation ever since against all odds and in the face of stiff opposition. And so here we have in Ezekiel a prophecy that the people would begin to come back to the land and that remarkably they’d have a nation again. What people in all of history have ceased to exist as a people for almost 2,000 years and then become a nation again? Well, this is exactly what God predicted this in this remarkable prophecy in Ezekiel 37.
The Mountains of Israel
But the verse goes on. It says on the mountains of Israel. Now, the nation that was declared in 1948 did not include the mountains of Israel. And one and one uh very important city on those mountains was Jerusalem. But in 1967, during the 6- day war, Israel regained control of the city of Jerusalem. And although they don’t have control over all of the mountains of Israel, what is called the West Bank today, they do have control of that important city. And they’re establishing settlements on the West Bank again in the face of stiff opposition and with much of the world against them.
And so this incredible prophecy in Ezekiel predicted that the Jews would return after thousands of years in dispersion, that they would become a nation again after ceasing to exist from AD.70 until 1948 and that in fact they would have a presence on the mountains of Israel.
The Final Piece: The Coming King
What comes next? The next line in this incredible one-verse wonder in Ezekiel 37 says there will be one king over all of them. Now they have a government, they have a prime minister, they have an army, a defence force, an air force, but they do not have a king. And they won’t have a king until Jesus returns to establish God’s kingdom here on this earth.
And so you are here in Bible prophecy in this incredible verse. You can pinpoint exactly where we are in God’s timeline. And so we should be encouraged. Previous parts of the verse have been fulfilled in incredible detail and against all odds. And so certainly we believe this final piece of this prophecy in this amazing one-verse wonder, will be fulfilled. Jesus will return. God’s kingdom will be established here on this earth.
A Part in the Promise
And you and I can have a part of that amazing future that God has planned if we are watching and waiting and ready for Christ’s return and God’s kingdom to come for his will to be done on earth, even as it is done in heaven. And so I pray that you will uh continue to study your Bible, check out verses like this one that speak to the coming of the Messiah, his reign on earth in God’s kingdom. And I pray that God will bless you as you read and study his word. Take care and God bless.
